The panel saw is a product of Safety Speed Cut Manufacturing Company. The saw
was made in 1974. I purchased the saw some 15 years ago from my uncle and
stored it until recently when I was able to get my shop addition built. I have
upgraded the unit by adding the spring-loaded saw return and dust collection. I
was able to purchase the saw return and dust collection hose/roller assembly from
the saw manufacturer. I replaced the saw with a Skilsaw and added an Infinite
laser cutting guide. I was unable to purchase a dust collection hood for the saw so
having had some metal experience earlier in life, I built the dust collection hood.

This is the north wall of the shop.  The cabinets were built in the shop.  The cases were constructed from ¾” melamine.  The doors and face frames are aspen with finish sprayed to match the melamine cases.  The shop panel saw was  very valuable during the cabinet construction.  Two “closets” are a part of the north wall, one is utilized as an enclosure for one of the dust collectors and the other houses the central heating/air unit.  Note:  The picture includes a card table and chairs.  During the noon hour you can usually find a uecker or gin game in progress.  Mouseover and you will see the other end of the shop.

Shop/Equipment

In 2010 this edge sander was added to the shop. It was built in the shop from
plans in Shopnotes issue 37. The sander, with it's 3/4 hp motor drives a 6" X 89"
sanding belt. It is a very stable addition to the shop and was well worth the build.
It actually adds two functions in that the main purpose is edge sanding along with
the ability to handle contour sanding on the left end of the belt. This unit is utilized
on a daily basis. Mouseover the photo for another angle.

A workhorse in the shop is this Jet bandsaw. It is equipped with Carter conversion
roller guides, Carter quick tension release, Kreg fence with micro adjustment and a
Incra miter gauge. All equipment on the south wall of the shop is connected to a
dust collection manifold with individual blast gates. Mouseover the photo for a
close-up of the roller guides.

This is the Delta drill press with laser alignment. The custom work table was
designed and built here in the shop. The table is 18" X 36" with a 3" square maple
fence equipped with Rockler track, stops and hold downs. Dust collection at the
drill press is handled by a Rockler "FlexForm" hose kit. With the table track layout,
I am able to utilize my Delta mortising attachment. Mouseover the photo for a
close-up of the work table.

The shop table saw is a Delta contractor saw. It is equipped with a Biesemeyer
fence and Delta mobile base. Note: Like many, I make my own blade inserts and
have removed the guard for the picture. The miter gauge extension is my version
of an extension featured in a recent issue of Wood magazine. Mouseover the photo to view closeup image.

The drum sander is a 24” Grizzly. This unit has been updated with the hook and loop system on the drums. This unit was a great addition to the shop some time ago and gets utilized on a regular basis.

Dust collection manifold on the south wall of the shop.

The shop planner is a Dewalt DW735. This planner is a workhorse and does a great job with dust collection. I replace the blades with Infinity rather than the
Dewalt blades.

The spindle sander is an oscillating Roybi. The cabinet the sander is mounted on is
on casters. The sander can be moved about the shop as needed. The mobile cabinet was built in the shop to match the wall cabinets.

Bessey and Quick Grip clamps.  You can never have enough clamps.  For years clamps were number one on my Christmas list.

A 2012 equipment upgrade is this DeWalt DWS780 12" sliding miter saw.  It is a great addition to the shop.  It is mounted on a mobile table with swing up tables on both the left and right sides. I was pleased to find that the settings on the saw were "dead on" out of the box. Mouseover the picture to get a second view.

The shop built router table is equipped with a Porter Cable Model 7518 - 3 1/4 hp router mounted in a Woodpecker side-winder lift kit.  The router is an easy start with variable speed.  Mouseover the picture for a view of the router and Woodpecker lift.

A 2015 addition to the shop is the pictured General International CNC machine. The i-Carver 40-915X with 2015 ArtCam software has added a new dimension to shop capabilities and thinking. The unit arrived via Midwest Technology Products located here in Sioux City. From the start, the support provided by General International for both hardware and software has been outstanding.

Grizzly dust collection system. I have this in an insulated closet next to the HVAC
system for the shop. Keeps the shop quiet while the unit runs. All of the tubing is
run sub-floor to collection stations near the equipment that utilizes the system.

A 2011 addition to the shop equipment is this router milling machine. It was built in the shop from plans in Shopnotes issue 115. With this addition, we will now be able to mill round table legs and include spirals or flutes in the design. Table legs up to 39" can be milled on the machine. Mouseover the photo for another view of the gear system.
