Furniture

This hall table is my design and the result of a need for a table in our entry way.  It is oak with tapered legs and mortise/tenon construction.  The lower shelf is plate glass recessed in the surround frame.

This TV stand and cabinet were built to match the chest above along with the current bedroom set.  The style and finish make it appear to be part of the original bedroom set.

This toy box was also built for my great-grandaughters nusery.  It is also made out of entirely 3/4" melamine.  Easy to clean up.  Now I have to fill the thing with toys.  That's what great-grandpa's do.

This armoire was built for my great-granddaughter's nursery.  It stands almost six feet.  The frame is made out of 3/4" melamine and the door frames are poplar with birch tongue and groove inserts.  The doors, pedistool and top trim were all spray finished with primer and three coats of Valspar white latex to match the melamine.  The drawers on the inside were made with 3/4" birch plywood.  Mouseover for a view of the inside.

A number of years ago, my parents had a need for a small TV table in the kitchen area and this table was the answer to that need.  A pretty simple project that today is still a TV table.  Mouseover the picture for another view.

This book case was an interesting project built with oak, dyed with India Ink and a top finish of sprayed Deft satin brushing lacquer.  It was my first attempt with the ink and I am very happy with the end result.  Mouseover the picture to view a closeup of the finish.

The pictured night stand is the second piece of the build for the granddaughter's birthday.

Our granddaughter thought bedroom furniture would make a great birthday present.  The 5 drawer chest of drawers pictured here is the main piece.  It is oak with India ink and satin lacquer finish.  Mouseover the picture for a second view.

The third part of the birthday present is the photoed bed head board.  Like the chest of drawers and night stand, it is oak with India ink and satin lacquer finish.  Mouseover the picture to see a second view.

The design for this hall table was intended to match other furniture the customer already had in the area where the table would be utilized.  It is oak with India Ink and clear lacquer for finish.  Hardware, including black drawer slides are from Rockler Woodworking and Hardware.  Mouseover the picture for a second view.

This project was a build to match other tables the customer already had in the living room area.  The oak hall table is finished in Minwax Provincial stain with sprayed clear lacquer for a top coat.  Stock to form the legs was purchased at the Woodsmith Store in Des Moines.  Mouseover the picture for another view.

A great 2013 project was this "modern" version of a Highboy.  The customers wanted a storage/display piece for their ensuite that would be an attention getter anytime the room was entered.  The design and black finish does make it an attraction.  The finish is black India ink with satin lacquer.  Like a number of other projects, the 3" X 3" X 36" leg stock came from the WoodSmith Store in Des Moines and the Salice Hinges for 3/8" lipped face frame doors came from Rockler.  Mouseover the photo for another view.

A number of years ago I built a built-in desk located just off our dinning area at the end of the kitchen.  That desk has never had a dedicated chair, so recently I decided it was time to correct that situation.  The chair was fashioned after our dinning room chairs and of course down sized.  Mouseover the top photo to get a look at the top of the chair back.  It was steam bent from a solid piece of oak stock 6/4" square.  The panels in the chair back were also steam bent to make the proper contour to the chair seat.

My dad passed away this past summer.  I built this Queen Anne side table to donate to the church he attended.  It will be an entryway piece in his memory.  It is red oak with spray applied black cherry stain and satin lacquer finish.  The legs were cut from 3 1/2" square oak stock that came from a supplier in New York.  The design is similar to one found in Woodsmith #43 from 1986.  Mouseover the image for a closer view of the table leg

Several projects lately have centered around matching existing furniture for customers. On this project, the customer wanted a matching night stand for their bedroom furniture. Mouseover the picture for a look at the night stand with the drawer open.

Shown here is a two piece, free standing Mud Room Organizer.  Cabinet location greets everyone entering through the door from the four car garage.  Also located in this room are the washer and dryer with proper storage for laundry needs.  Cabinets in this room were constructed with ¾” melamine with poplar face frames and door frames.  Finish is white Sherwin Williams ProClassic with Minwax Polycrylic clear satin top coat.  All doors are equipped with Blum soft close 110 degree hinges.  Mouseover for a photo of the wall cabinet above the washer and dryer.
